6 01 2010Other “big news” headlines from 2002 included a flap over coalbed methane exploration on Bozeman Pass that resulted in the county’s creating an emergency zoning district to stop J.M. Huber Corp., from drilling. The case eventually landed in court, with the county prevailing in its quest to keep gas drilling from occurring in Gallatin County.
Also in the news in 2002, the strip club “Teasers” opened near Three Forks, prompting local officials throughout Gallatin County to adopt ordinances to restrict sexually-oriented businesses; Gallatin County creates the Four Corners Water and Sewer District after a long, contentious battle that may have just begun; the Sacajawea Hotel in Three Forks was spared a fate as an assisted living facility before a Nevada-based group of investors bought it. The hotel was again sold in 2009 to the Folkvord family, who is in the process of restoring the century-old landmark and plans an April 2010 reopening.
