Survivor to speak on violence, abuse

Abused by a church leader at a young age, the Rev. Becca Stevens has used that experience as an incentive to help women turn their lives around.
In 1997, Stevens founded Magdalene house, which provides shelter, housing, food, therapy and more to women who have survived violence, prostitution, and addiction. An Episcopalian chaplain for St. Augustine’s Chapel at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., Stevens will speak Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in Neumann Auditorium at Wartburg College.
“I didn’t understand it for decades,” Stevens said, “but that was my first connection to the women (who lived) on the streets. Most of the women I serve at Magdalene were first sexually abused between the ages of seven and 11.”

Man charged with kidnapping in incident with prostitute

A Clarksville man was charged with especially aggravated kidnapping Saturday after he allegedly forced a woman to have sex with him at gunpoint.
The victim told police she agreed to have sex with Kenneth Deshawn Mitchell, 34, in exchange for $20, according to his arrest warrant.
Mitchell, who gave a 2832 Nat Hoosier Lane address, then drove her to Fort Defiance where they had sex.
Afterward, he allegedly pulled out a gun and forced her to continue having sex with him.
Then he told her, “I’m taking you to a place that no one can hear you scream,” the warrant said, and drove her to Stewart County.
The victim eventually escaped, though the warrant does not say how.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A spokesman says David Beckham will file suit in Germany against the U.S. magazine that published claims the soccer superstar had sex with prostitutes.
Los Angeles publicist Jeff Raymond said the former captain of England’s national team will sue In Touch magazine in several jurisdictions beginning Friday but declined to provide more details.
Beckham has been married to former Spice Girl singer Victoria Beckham for 11 years. The couple has three sons.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS.
In Touch’s publisher, Bauer Media, is based in Hamburg.
The magazine quotes 26-year-old Irma Nici, who says she was a call girl who had sex with Beckham five times in 2007. She claims he also had sex with a second prostitute.

During an undercover sting in August, officers with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department busted an on-line prostitution ring and discovered two teenage girls caught up in the world of sex trade.
Undercover detectives responded to an illicit advertisement on the website “backpage.com.” They posed as customers and arrived at a hotel room at the Comfort Inn on Elm Hill Pike. Inside, they found two 17-year-old girls willing to perform sex acts for cash.

Walker, of Macon, Georgia, was being held on a $52,000 bond. The teen girls – who were from Macon, Georgia and Norfolk, Virginia – were also taken into custody. They were each charged with prostitution in Juvenile Court. Their names were not released.

Police Say Man Beat, Robbed Prostitutes
Kevin George Jones Charged In Connection With Robbery

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — Clarksville police said they think they have the man in jail who’s behind a string of robberies that target “ladies of the night.”
Officials said they arrested Kevin George Jones on Thursday night after he matched a victim’s description.
Recently, a few prostitutes have reported they were beaten after agreeing to exchange sex for money then robbed.
In one case, a woman told police she made the deal with Jones and that during the act, she said, Jones started to hit her in the face and then took back the money he paid her.
Jones has been charged in connection with one robbery, and officials said they expect more charges to follow.

Man Charged With Assaulting, Robbing Prostitutes

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Police have arrested a man who police believe assaulted and robbed multiple women who work as prostitutes over a weeklong period.
Clarksville police arrested 30-year-old Kevin George Jones and charged him with one count of robbery and simple possession.
Police believe Jones has been approaching the prostitutes and agreeing to exchange sex for money. After the sex act was completed, police believe he assaulted and then robbed the women of all their money.
Jones was identified through the vehicle description given to police by the victims. An officer stopped the car for a traffic violation and found marijuana inside the vehicle. A detective was called out to the scene since the vehicle and description of the suspect matched Jones.
So far, Jones has only been linked to one of the cases but police are working to link him to the other cases as well. The robbery happened on 3 a.m. on September 14. Police said the victim told them the suspect got angry at her and began to hit her in the face and then forcibly took her money, including the money he paid her.
