Robertson and several others from Nashville’s Magdalene program, a nonprofit residential treatment program to help prostitutes turn their lives around, visited the women’s prison this week as part of the “Find Your Way Home” national prison tour.
At each stop, former prostitutes share their stories and pass out free copies of Find Your Way Home, a book of stories compiled by women from the Magdalene program.
“We’re going on this tour to spread the word about the communal aspect of recovery for women,” said Magdalene founder Becca Stevens.
As part of the program, women with a history of prostitution can live at one of Magdalene’s six residential houses for free. For the next two years, they use the 12-step recovery program to overcome alcohol and drug addiction. When they’re able to work, the women may find outside jobs or take a position at Thistle Farms, Magdalene’s bath and body-care company.

State Rests Case In Bruce Mendenhall Trial

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Thursday afternoon the state rested its case in the first trial of accused serial killer Bruce Mendenhall. Mendenhall is the truck driver accused of killing prostitutes in several states. 
The focus in court on Thursday was the accusations that Mendenhall wanted to kill two Metro Police officers. A former inmate told jurors Mendenhall wanted him to kill two detectives.
Michael Jenkins said he met Mendenhall in the Metro Jail. Jenkins said the truck driver did not mention the lawmen by name, but he knew Mendenhall was talking about detectives Pat Postiglione and Lee Freeman. 
The pair arrested Mendenhall in July 2007 at the truck stop and charged him with killing Sarah Hulbert. Her body was found at the same truck stop a few weeks earlier.

Jury Listens To Audio Tapes In Bruce Mendenhall Trial

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jurors listened to hours of audio tapes Wednesday in the trial of accused serial killer Bruce Mendenhall. Prosecutors said the tapes prove the truck driver tried to have three witnesses killed in the Sara Hulbert case. 
Mendenhall is accused of killing Hulbert and prostitutes in several states. 
Prosecutors put former Metro Jail inmate Roy McLaughlin on the stand Wednesday.
McLaughlin sent police a letter telling them Mendenhall wanted some witnesses killed. Police put a hidden microphone on him, not once but twice. There was video of the two talking in the recreation yard of the jail. 
Prosecutors said Mendenhall wanted Lori Young, her son Ritchie Keim and David Powell killed. They’re witnesses in the Hulbert case.

Tennessee fans are feeling a bit conflicted — angry at having been jilted by a spouse they weren’t really in love with in the first place.
As one fan described it on Twitter: “It’s like getting a divorce from a stripper.”
Students rioted on Tennessee’s campus Tuesday night after word spread that football coach Lane Kiffin, 34, was bolting for USC after just one season in Knoxville. Despite the mayhem,  a local law enforcement official sounded almost sympathetic.
“I think the students have had kind of a violent reaction to that, and a lot of them are disheartened, upset and feel betrayed that … he would be leaving and taking off,” Knoxville Fire Department spokesman D.J. Corcoran told the Associated Press.

Testimony Underway In Latest Mendenhall Trial

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Testimony has started in the first trial of accused serial killer Bruce Mendenhall, the truck driver accused of murdering prostitutes in several states, including Tennessee.
The trial is not about those murders, it’s about allegations that Mendenhall tried to hire someone to kill Metro detectives and witnesses in the Sara Hulbert case.
The state has been presenting it’s case and calling witnesses since about 10 a.m. Tuesday. They’re relying on the testimony and recordings of two Metro jail inmates. One of them wore a wire.
The other inmate sent a letter to Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas.
The prosecution’s first witness was Metro Cold Case detective Pat Postiglione. The detective told jurors how he and Detective Lee Freeman arrested Mendenhall at the Truck Stops of America in July 2007.

In Birmingham, Mendenhall is charged with murder in the slaying of Lucille “Greta” Carter. Carter, a 44-year-old transient was found dead July 1, 2007, on Finley Boulevard. Investigators said she was shot with a .22-caliber weapon and dumped nude next to a trash bin on a service road. She had a plastic bag over her head and duct tape around her neck.
Bond for Mendenhall in Carter’s slaying was set at $1 million. However, Mendenhall remained in custody at the Davidson County Jail in Nashville, where he was charged in the death of 25-year-old Sara Hulbert, who was found fatally shot at an interstate truck stop in Tennessee.
Nashville authorities have said Mendenhall confessed to killing five women, including one in Birmingham identified as Carter. The victims were mainly known prostitutes who had been killed and dumped at or near trucks stops, authorities have said.
